Attendance
Regular, daily attendance in class is of prime importance in the educational process and cannot be overemphasized. Attendance is the responsibility of the student, the parents and the school. Students are expected to attend school all day of the established school calendar as approved annually by the Board of Education and in compliance with the Colorado School Attendance Law. Absences have a negative effect upon instructional continuity and attempting to make up work through after-school assignments cannot duplicate the classroom experience.
Students must demonstrate a 95% attendance rate to participate in:
- All SLHS dances
- Any other school-approved activities the administration deems appropriate
Students are only allowed 10 excused absences before documentation is required.
All absences and tardies must be called in within 24 hours to be excused (per District Regulations JH-R).
Absences
To excuse an absence, please email SLHSattendance@jeffco.k12.co.us (preferred method) or call the attendance line at 303-982-3300. Calls will be taken from the attendance line from 8 a.m. to noon. After noon, they will be taken off the following day.
Please provide the following information:
- Student name
- Parent name and phone number
- Reason for absence
- Date of absence
The email and attendance line are to be used to notify the school about full-day absences due to illness, appointments or family emergencies.
Day-of release
Families who need a student released from class the day they are calling should call the main office at 303-982-3311, option 0.
Appointments
For students with an appointment during the school day, a provider’s note is required for the appointment to be excused. Provider’s notes can be dropped off at the main office, faxed to 303-982-3312 or emailed to SLHSattendance@jeffco.k12.co.us.
Attendance in Jeffco
The importance of regular, daily school attendance as a basis for academic achievement cannot be overemphasized. Attendance is a shared responsibility of the student, the families and the school.
It is the family’s responsibility to ensure their student attends school and to notify the school when their student is absent for a legitimate reason, such as an illness or family emergency. Each family should also ensure their student’s school has their correct contact information so that the school is able to communicate about any attendance issues that may arise.
