August 2021
Dear Standley Lake High School Students and Families,
Welcome Back Gators!! We hope that you and your family are enjoying the summer with fun activities and family time. The purpose of this letter is to welcome everyone back to school and to provide you with key information to help your student transition into their 2021-22 school year at Standley Lake High School. We are excited to begin the school year and equally excited to have our Gators back in the building. One of our first priorities in the first week will be to provide our 9th and 10th grade underclassmen with orientation and the opportunity to get acclimated back in the building. Therefore, only freshmen will attend school on August 17th @ 7:30 am., only Sophomores will attend on the 18th @ 7:30 am., and all students will come to school on August 19th and 20th. We will resume the normal daily bell schedule on August 23rd. While there are some uncertainties about health protocols, here is the latest information from Jeffco Public Schools.
Start of the Year Tasks to Complete
The following checklist should help in completing the necessary paperwork and tasks for the start of the year. We are encouraging families to complete the majority of the registration process online.
___ Jeffco Connect > Jeffco Connect. Jeffco Connect is the online tool for parents/guardians to
update contact information. We strongly recommend that students not have access to a parent/guardian’s Jeffco
Connect account. Every parent/guardian should log into Jeffco Connect, on the SLHS homepage, to update
your student’s information. It is critical that the school has the most current address, phone numbers, and who to contact in an emergency. Forgot your password?
___ Verify/update current address, phone numbers, and email
___ Pay school fees online through Jeffco Connect (preferred) OR
___ Pay by cash or check in the school financial office.
___ Purchase a parking pass online in Jeffco Connect
Completed Parking Pass Application must be submitted to SLHS as well when picking up a pass.
___ Pre-pay for school lunch: through Jeffco Connect “Meal Payments” link or the link SchoolCafe
___ We are asking SL families to fill out the Free and Reduced Meal Benefits application. There
are benefits to the families and to the school for each student accepted.

Student Athletic Pass
Students may purchase an Athletic pass good for the 2021-2020 school year. The cost for the Athletic pass is $60. This gets you free admission to all Athletic events at any Jeffco facility during the regular season. Athletic admission is $4.00 per student per event. Adults are $6. The pass would pay for itself after the student attends 15 athletic events. Please note that if the student gives their pass to anyone else the pass will be confiscated. Please contact our Financial Secretary if you are interested in sponsoring a pass for those students who cannot afford to purchase an athletic pass.

IB-MYP @ SLHS
Standley Lake High School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering both the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) and the IB Diploma Program. While our diploma program serves a cohort of 11th and 12 graders, the Middle Years Program serves all of our students, inclusive of all interests and academic abilities.
This class incorporates the MYP framework to help our students become active, compassionate learners. By making practical connections between what they learn in this course and the real world, we can help them become responsible participants in local, national, and global communities.
For more information on the MYP program and its framework, please consult the IB page on our website.
Visiting SLHS and School Safety
Visitors during school hours should check in and out at the Security desk or main office. We will be meeting with all students and staff the first two weeks of school to go over our safety and security protocols. Please talk with your student about the security measures in our school. Although we have safety plans in place, we cannot rely on these measures alone. The best way to keep our school safe is to communicate concerns to school administrators and security staff. If you “See Something, Say Something,” cannot be stressed enough. Thank you for your help in following our school safety guidelines. Please also know that if and when the school is in an emergency situation, our first priority is to ensure that students and staff are safe. Therefore, we may not be able to answer your phone calls and emails until the situation is resolved. Our safety/emergency situations here. Principal Rago will send out information as soon as possible once our students and staff are safe.
Safe to Tell- 1-877-542-SAFE
SLHS and Jeffco encourage students and families to utilize Colorado Safe2Tell to report safety concerns. The following is from Colorado Safe2Tell: Safe2Tell Colorado wants every student to know - telling isn't "snitching.” Telling is when you need to keep yourself or someone you know safe from threats, harmful behaviors or dangerous situations. All student IDs have the Safe2Tell contact information on the back of the ID. We also encourage students to reach out to a trusted adult in the school when needed. Thank you for your cooperation and support!
Building Updates
Thank you to our Facility Manager, Shawn Swainson and his team for updating and cleaning our school over the summer. We look forward to the planning process for our bond improvements. Construction projects will extend into 2023.
Students Succeed When Parent/Guardians are Involved
-
SLHS recommends parent/guardians volunteer in our school community an average of 1 hour per month.
-
We have numerous opportunities for families to engage in our school community
-
A few examples include: participation in a booster(Athletics/Activities, FOSLIB, Music) organization; tutoring; library help; chaperoning dances and events; attending concerts, athletic events; volunteering on our After Prom Team; attending GET Accountability.
-
Look for monthly opportunities in our newsletter sent via email to families and thanks for getting involved!
Standley Lake Accountability Team (GET)
The GET TEAM meets regularly on select Mondays from 5:30 -7:00 p.m. in the Library This team of parents, staff, students, and community members are charged with serving as the school accountability committee in compliance with Colorado Senate Bill 13-193. This is a great group of folks and all are encouraged to attend and participate!
PTSA
The SLHS PTSA meets regularly during the school year. See SLHS PTSA
I would like to invite and encourage you to get involved and become an active member of the Gator Community!
I truly look forward to the 2021-22 school year! We have so many wonderful opportunities for our students to experience. Standley Lake High School is GATOR STRONG and united, we are #Better Together. Thank you for your support as we undertake the important mission of educating your student in a safe, positive, and academically challenging environment.
