Graduation Requirements
Graduation Requirements in Jeffco
Colorado and Jeffco Public Schools are committed to educating students so they enter the workforce with in-demand skills that meet business, industry and higher education standards. According to the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), jobs that require training beyond high school are growing three times as fast as those that don't require training.
The graduating class of 2022 and beyond must meet or exceed the following requirements:
- Complete a minimum of 23 credit hours in required courses and
- Demonstrate Postsecondary Workforce Readiness (PWR) for at least one measure in reading, writing and communicating; and one measure in mathematics.
Standley Lake High School student need to meet the competency requirement only once for English and once for math, and can mix and match how they meet these two competencies.
Testing
Students can show competency through testing, including Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams in some English and math classes.
Not all students take these classes, but all students in Colorado are required to take the SAT in April of their junior year. Students can meet the competency requirement by scoring at least 470 on the English portion and 500 on the math portion of the SAT.
Concurrent Enrollment
Students can take concurrent enrollment classes at SLHS that also earn college credit through Red Rocks Community College or the University of Colorado Denver. Specific courses in English and math can meet the competency with a grade of C or better.
Capstone Project
A capstone project is a broad-reaching, interest-based project that serves as a culminating experience for students. Gators currently do a capstone project through senior English classes and through the IB Internal Assessments.
We are working to make minor adjustments to what we already do to accommodate the competency requirement for both English and math. Students will learn more about this as they approach their senior year.
